The Government are due to announce the next round of unnecessary, unfair and unjust cuts on 20th October. The TUC has organised a lobby of Parliament for the day before – 19th October. The branch will be attending and we would like as many members as possible to join us.
Locally Waltham Council announced Phase 3 of their cuts programme on Thursday 14th October. UNISON is representing members caught up in Phase 2 which has left 81 Council employees facing potential redundancy.
The local branch is affiliated to the local Trades Council and to the Waltham Forest Anti-Cuts Union and will be extending our campaign against the cuts through those two local organisations.
The branch is also actively backing the national UNISON One Million Voices Campaign. Members are asked to sign up to the campaign. Full details will be available at the Branch Meeting on 12th October 2010.
In Waltham Forest the future of the Cyberlink Centre, a popular and vital local community resource is under threat as a result of the loss of the Central Government Grant that funded the service. Come along to the public meeting on Thursday 21st October at 7pm at the Beaumont Community Centre for more details and to be part of the campaign to save this important service for the local community.
