COUNCIL PAY CUTS – WE ARE NOT HAVING IT
Two well attended branch meetings (over 800 attended in total) have voted overwhelmingly to support a Joint Trade Unions Campaign in Waltham Forest to fight the Council’s proposals. A motion was agreed. The meetings agreed to Boycott the Survey, Organise lobbies and other events to highlight our case, Sign up to the Joint Unions Petition, Call for an Industrial Action Ballot and lunch a “We won’t Sign” Campaign at the appropriate time.
BOYCOTT THE SURVEY
We have considered our position long and hard on this question and have come to the conclusion that completing the survey can only work to the Council’s benefit. Sadly, the Council have set up the survey on the basis of a £3 million cut being required from our Terms and Conditions so only those completed forms that meet that criteria will “count”. Even returning the form to say that we agree none of their proposals and we want them to take the money needed from the Consultant Spend will still be useful to the Council who will be hoping to boast that most staff took part.
SIGN THE PETITION
Instead of their survey we are inviting all members of staff affected by these proposals, whether they are trade union members or not, to sign up to our petition. This will in effect be our survey. We will hand it to Council at an appropriate time. So, please make sure that you and your work colleagues all sign the petition.
LOBBY THE COUNCIL MEETING
On 21st July 2011 the joint trade unions of Waltham Forest will be lobbying the Full Council Meeting. The lobby will start at 6pm and will lobby councillors as they arrive. We really need this to be a massive turn-out by our members.
