Terms and Conditions Campaign
We’re all in it together…. that’s what management keep telling us but some of our front line staff are facing cuts of between £4,000 to £7,000 if the cuts to terms and conditions go ahead.
Not everyone is facing financial difficulties though as UNISON has recently been informed of proposed pay raises too many senior managers in the council in the next phase of the Transformation Programme.
This is on top of increases some have already received such as the Head of HR, who has received a pay rise of nearly £12,000 in the 8 months she has been with the council and the Head of Residents First whose salary has increased by almost £4,000 in 8 months.
Those of us who have had a pay freeze for the last 2 years would love any increase but as if their pay rises are not enough many senior managers are also receiving market supplements, on top of their salaries which is costing the borough over £60,000 a year.
There is obviously one rule for them and one for us.
Our branch campaign against the cuts to our terms and conditions has reached a critical point and the final decision about the cuts to our terms and conditions will be made by 4 councillors on 14th September. This issue is not deemed important enough to be referred back to the Cabinet or full council for a decision.
Our branch meeting on 1st September backed selective strike action, supported by branch wide action and a mass non-signing of the new contracts. We need to discuss this action with you and all our members.
This is the biggest issue our branch has ever faced so please come along and make your views known.
