Most of our members now know Chris Robbins as the Council Leader who threatened to sack them if they did not sign up to worse terms and conditions. Things were different in 1986. Here is a younger Chris when he was editor of London SOGAT Post. In his editorial he wrote, “We shall, by popular request, carry an obituary section – hopefully the first entry will be Murdoch’s plans et cetera.” He was, of course, referring to Murdoch’s threats to dismiss SOGAT members from New International if they didn’t sign up to new terms and conditions.
We can only wonder at what kind of traumatic event turned Murdoch’s once nemesis into a Murdoch inspired employer.
