Over 1,000 local people attended a victory rally in Hoe Street Walthamstow on Saturday 27th October. The EDL had been banned from marching in the borough but we were still worried that they may try to hold a ‘static’ rally in Walthamstow. The Police then imposed further restrictions on them and refused to let them enter Waltham Forest . Continue reading
New Year – New Skills......
Have you thought about learning new skills in 2013 ?

In East London we have hundreds of thousands of public sector workers and workers in the Private and Voluntary Sector. A fair days pay for a fair days work may not be reaching for the sky but is all too often beyond the reach of workers providing vital services to the public. Attached is an article from Searchlight Magazine. The EDL are returning to Walthamstow on Saturday and we will be gathering with other local trade unions and community groups to celebrate our borough’s diversity at 11am at Walthamstow Town Square. The branch banner will be there so please come along and join us in protesting against fascists marching through our streets.
Thank you to everyone who supported the march on Saturday. It was a really enjoyable event with over 100,000 Trade Unionists showing their opposition to the government’s austerity agenda. The TUC are pleased with the response and let’s hope we can build an effective campaign on the back of the march.
I would have liked there to have been more members marching with the branch banner but we did have a high quality delegation. Please continue to support the fight for public services and for public sector workers. I hope that when the next one comes around we will be joined by others. Continue reading
A few weeks ago the residents of Waltham Forest turned out in their thousands and humiliated the EDL when they tried to whip up hatred in our community and march through Walthamstow. They appear to want to be humiliated again because they intend to march again on Saturday 27th October. There will be a counter demonstration and you can see details of that here. So join us in the Town Square on Saturday 27th October for a peaceful celebration of our borough’s diversity and to say “No” to the EDL and their obnoxious followers. Continue reading
All of us who are members of UNISON would like us to increase our influence and get stronger so we are better prepared to protect our members during these difficult times. The only way we can do this is to increase our membership (why not try and sign a colleague up today) and to increase our levels of activity by helping members to become more active. We want members who can help to become contacts, stewards, reps or officers. Have a look at our wanted poster and see if you can help us to build our union.
