More than 560 local residents have now signed the petition calling on the Department for Education to give Waltham Forest Council the funding that will allow them to provide the secondary school places we need.
Our Community, Our Schools was set up by a group of parents and local residents who were deeply concerned about proposals to set up new ‘Free Schools’ in the borough, run by two religious organizations, Oasis Community Learning and Tauheedul Free Schools.
We believe that our children would be better served by allowing our local community schools to meet the demand for places. Two weeks ago, the Local Authority confirmed that it too was concerned about the Free Schools and published its plan to provide secondary school places for our children using our community schools as far as possible and without the proposed Free Schools. So we know there is an alternative.
Now we have to persuade the government that more people support our community schools than support the Free Schools. Please help us to do this.
Two things you can do to help our campaign now: Circulate the online petition – this petition has grown fast but it needs to be bigger.
