The trade union movement is facing the most vicious attack for decades in the form of the Trade Union bill which is currently going through parliament. Initially the Bill was to restrict strike action but more and more measures are being added. These include stopping the deduction of union subs from salaries, allowing agency workers to carry out the work of strikers, threatening pickets and protesters with ASBO’s and restricting our political funds making it more difficult to campaign on various issues.
This attack will affect all union members as unions will not be able to operate effectively under these proposals. Please take time to read the attached TUC guidance and write to your MP and sign the online petition against the Bill. We will be discussing the issue in detail at our branch meeting on 1st October.
