The government failed to buy crucial protective equipment to cope with a pandemic, a BBC investigation has found.

There were no gowns, visors, swabs or body bags in the government’s pandemic stockpile when Covid-19 reached the UK.

Coronavirus: Bereaved frontline families entitled to £60,000......

Families of front line NHS and social care staff in England who die from coronavirus will be entitled to a £60,000 payment, the government says.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock confirmed 82 NHS and 16 social care workers had died so far during the outbreak.  Click here to read more.

Coronavirus: Immunity passports ‘could increase virus spread’......

Governments should not issue so-called “immunity passports” or “risk-free certificates” as a way of easing lockdowns, the World Health Organization (WHO) says.

It said there was “no evidence” that people who had developed antibodies after recovering from the virus were protected against a second infection.

Revealed: UK ministers were warned last year of risks of coronavirus pandemic......

Ministers were warned last year the UK must have a robust plan to deal with a pandemic virus and its potentially catastrophic social and economic consequences in a confidential Cabinet Office briefing leaked to the Guardian.

The detailed document warned that even a mild pandemic could cost tens of thousands of lives, and set out the must-have “capability requirements” to mitigate the risks to the country, as well as the potential damage of not doing so.  Click here to read more.

More than 500 dead from coronavirus at east London hospitals but daily toll falling......

The number of confirmed deaths from coronavirus in east London hospitals has now risen to more than 500 since the start of the pandemic.

However, only four new deaths were confirmed today, significantly lower than the daily totals from the end of last week.  Click here to read more.

Cuts to Tube and buses in London have led to overcrowding during the coronavirus outbreak, Britain’s biggest travel watchdogs have said.

Coronavirus: London Bus drivers share free travel fears......

Bus travel in London will be free of charge during the coronavirus outbreak, Transport for London (TfL) has announced.

All two-door buses will move to middle-door entry on Monday (20 April) – with the front of the vehicle roped off to protect drivers from contact with passengers.  Click here to read more.

Eleven coronavirus deaths confirmed at east London hospitals......

Eleven coronavirus deaths were today announced at east London hospitals.

Barts Health NHS Trust, which runs Whipps Cross Hospital, confirmed a further seven COVID-19 deaths bringing the trust’s total to 306.  Click here to read more.
