Major refurbishments are taking place at several sites across the Borough, these include Gainsford Road, Rowan House, Harvey House and the Town Hall. Works were started, and some cases nearly completed, before UNISON were told. It was members who were affected by the work that contacted the Union, the Council did not see fit to consult with UNISON on the proposed work. WORKERS’ MEMORIAL DAY......
Workers Memorial Day is celebrated around the world on April 28th.
This year it falls on a Sunday therefore UNISON in Waltham Forest will hold a ceremony at the Town Hall on Friday 26th April at 1 pm.
To show our support UNISON will be selling purple ribbons on Friday 26th. We ask you to donate £1 (minimum) which UNISON will donate to a charity concerned with the Health and Safety of workers. If you can sell ribbons at your workplace please contact the UNISON office. Continue reading
The HSE are still investigating Waltham Forest in connection with Asbestos Management (or lack of it!). The Council is still not fully consulting with UNISON about works which have been carried out or are proposed. Work on the garages at the Town Hall and Sycamore House has been done but UNISON was only told after the event. However, UNISON has been able to have Asbestos Management put as a standing item on the agenda of the Corporate Health and Safety Committee. Continue reading
