Waltham Forest May Day celebration 28 April......

Sunday from 1-5pm.  Abbott’s Park, 9 Abbotts Park Road, London E10 6HT

Waltham Forest Trade Union Council (TUC), (in association with Newham and Redbridge TUC ), has organised a celebration of May Day – International Workers’ Day. It will feature speakers from the labour and trade union movement – as well as music, dance and rap poetry. It will be a family-friendly event – with stalls and food & drink. Hospital staff say patient meals not fit to eat......

More than half of hospital staff in England wouldn’t eat food served to patients because it’s unhealthy and of poor quality, according to a survey by UNISON published today (Wednesday).  Click here to read more.

‘No sprinklers in 96% of London high-rise council blocks’......

Death at work trend going upwards yet deadly deregulation still remains government obsession......

HSE latest provisional figures for fatal injuries in Great Britain show 144 fatally injured between 1st April 2017 and 31st March 2018 which is nine more lives lost in preventable incidents than the year before 2016/17.

Coming a year after the Grenfell fire, and just before the 30th anniversary of the Piper Alpha fire which killed 167 workers, the upward trend is worrying.  The Cullen Report into the Piper Alpha disaster led to tighter regulations and enforcement of fire safety offshore.  Health and safety regulations written in the blood of the Piper Alpha workers undoubtedly saved many lives over the years but the lessons were not learned across all industries and could have prevented Grenfell   Continue reading
