DAVE KNIGHT, BRANCH SECRETARY
Dave’s involvement in trade unions began with ASTMS in 1973. He became a rep with the CPSA in 1975. In 1980 he joined Hackney NALGO and was elected shop steward for residential children’s homes. In 1986 Dave moved to Islington and was NALGO shop steward before joining Waltham Forest as a social worker in 1987.
CHRISTINE STREET, ASSISTANT BRANCH SECRETARY
Christine Street has worked in Waltham Forest since 1989. She became a UNISON Health and Safety rep while working in the iSIS team at Leyton Municipal Offices in 2002 and then in Silver Birch House around 2006/7. Chris was pleased to be seconded to UNISON on a part time basis to assist with the Efficiency Review in 2008 and then full time to assist with the now named Transformation Agenda in 2009. She is also a staff side rep and at the last AGM was elected as Assistant Branch Secretary. Although her secondment has finished and she has returned to her substantive post, she is still very much involved in the Union.
Chris represents members in meetings with managers and attends meetings with management and staff around the proposed restructuring.
LYNNE TROUGHTON, CHAIR/LABOUR LINK OFFICER
Lynne Troughton is Chair of the branch and works in the Finance Directorate. She has 12 years experience as a Shop Steward, and was Chair and Women’s Officer in the Hackney UNISON Branch. In Waltham Forest she does a small amount of representation. She sits on negotiating teams to try and get the best deal for staff in her workplace.
SANDRA BENNETT, VICE CHAIR
ANGELA BURGESS, VICE CHAIR
Angela has been a shop steward for several years. Since joining UNISON she has been active in the union as a workplace representative and sitting on Job Evaluation panels.
JULIA POYNTER, ADULT SERVICES CONVENOR/LIFELONG LEARNING CO-ORDINATOR
Has been a Shop Steward since 1985 in NUPE, NALGO and UNISON and is currently job share Adults Services Convenor and Joint Unions Education Coordinator. She was Branch Education Officer from 1998 until 2010 when she took on the role of Lifelong Learning Coordinator. This involves developing Union Learning Reps, identifying learning needs of members and negotiating with management and providers to run relevant courses. Julia is also a Staffside Representative, a UNISON Lay Tutor and a TUC Disability Champion. She is a member of the UNISON Greater London Regional Education Committee.
MARILYN MOORE, BRANCH EDUCATION CO-ORDINATOR AND BM OFFICER
Marilyn’s role is to ensure that all Branch Activists such as Stewards, Health and Safety and Learning Reps get the training and support they need to help them carry out their union duties. She liaises with regional Education Co-ordinators to organise in-house training on relevant subjects. She also works with other union colleagues on the Branch Committee to develop branch strategy and identify training needs across the branch.
MARTIN NUTT, DISABILITIES OFFICER/SCHOOLS CONVENOR
Martin Joined UNISON in 2004 and became the steward at Kelmscott school in 2005. He currently shares the positions of joint Steward and Health and Safety rep at the school.
He is Schools Convenor for Waltham Forest and is enjoying this challenging role, making sure that all members are treated fairly and equally.
As a member with a disability Martin passionately believes that all members should be treated the same and has set up the UNISON Disability Group in Waltham Forest
GEORGE BEATTIE, H&S OFFICER AND JOINT TRADE UNIONS H&S CONVENOR
George has worked in Local Government since 2005. He was a Health and Safety Rep in libraries .
George was seconded to the post of Joint Unions Convenor for Health and Safety in Waltham Forest in October 2011.
He is also the Unison Branch Officer for Health and Safety and is a member of the Branch Committee.

Gary has been a member of Unison for a number of years. He believes that unless we support our Unions, we will soon be sorry as employees. Since joining he has been active in the Union as a Workplace Representative. He is also now the LGBT Officer for our branch. Don’t hesitate to contact him should you need advice or just a chat.
PETER ASHAN, INTERNATIONAL OFFICER
Peter Ashan is very pleased to have been elected WF UNISON International Officer
He has been a member of unions since his days as a university student in the mid 1980′s. Since then has been very much involved in international trade union activities such as supporting the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa, the recent Stop The War Movement, as well as involvement in anti-racist work locally.
He first joined Waltham Forest UNISON as a part time youth worker in 1998 ,returning several times due to career changes.
He was elected in 2013 as the Workplace Rep for UNISON at George Tomlinson Primary school.
International work is an important part of being a trade unisonist and he looks forward during his time as International Officer to putting into practice trade union slogans such as “an injury to one is an injury to all”
