Wednesday 13th April from 6pm at Walthamstow Town Hall
Save the Sheltered Housing Warden Service – We anticipate that there will be a lobby to save the warden service. The service is threatened by cuts that will mean less warden time in each sheltered housing unit and a severe reduction in the cleaning of those establishments. Service users have campaign that has received coverage in the local press and there has been a public meeting featuring the local MP’s. Their campaign includes a petition which requires 4,000 signatures. Please sign and return to the branch office before Wednesday afternoon. Fighting the Cuts – The Council’s proposed Phase 4 cuts will be discussed at the meeting. These include huge cuts to Youth Services with something like 51 Youth Worker posts being deleted. Youth Offending Team faces cuts of 50% to its front line staff and Connexions who work with young people who are looking for work or further education is scrapped. The proposals also include the cut to all Council workers below PO9’s redundancy termination notification period. Basically, the 12 week redeployment period that is currently used to try and get staff facing redundancy another job in the Council is to be dramatically reduced for all staff who have less than 12 years’ service and are graded below PO9.
Please pass this message on to all your colleagues and encourage them to support the lobby on Wednesday.
