Local People Vow to Stop EDL March

We Are Waltham Forest, a group set up by the local Unite Against Fascism group to oppose the EDL in Waltham Forest, held a successful public meeting last night. Over 100 local people representing our diverse community in Waltham Forest attended and heard speakers from the Church of England, Black Activists Rising Against the Cuts and Unite Against Fascism. Our photo shows the top table at the meeting where local trade unionists, councillors, religious groups and community activists all pledged to stop the planned EDL march through Waltham Forest on 18th August 2012. As Martin Smith of Unite Against Fascism said – the only way we can prevent the EDL marching is by force of numbers. Please put 18th August in your diary now and join us at the Town Square from 11 am on 18th August so that we can peacefully demonstrate that Waltham Forest is united in its contempt for the EDL and its divisive and fascist policies. The meeting was a huge success and showed clearly that the people of Waltham Forest are determined to defend our friendly and diverse community
