Victory rally in Walthamstow on Saturday

Over 1,000 local people attended a victory rally in Hoe Street Walthamstow on Saturday 27th October.  The EDL had been banned from marching in the borough but we were still worried that they may try to hold a ‘static’ rally in Walthamstow. The Police then imposed further restrictions on them and refused to let them enter Waltham Forest .

The victory rally celebrated the strength and unity of our community and the total failure of the EDL to bring division and hatred to our borough. Our massive success on 1st September not only stopped the EDL holding their rally outside the Town Hall but left them looking pathetic and in disarray. Their website boasted of ‘Walthamstow – the re-match’ but they didn’t have the nerve to try a second time.

The 27th October was another great day for local anti-fascists but we mustn’t be complacent. The economic recession is the perfect situation for fascists to peddle their lies and we only have to look to Europe and countries like Greece to see the dangers of division and hatred in these times of financial hardship.
