Young Members – help us build a more vibrant UNISON!

young peopleWe want to set up  an active Young Members’ Group.   Would you like to be involved?

We have an opportunity to send a representative to Cuba to participate in the sixth annual Young Trade Unionists’ May Day Brigade.

Participants will attend the spectacular May Day Rally in Havana, meet members of the Cuban TUC, visit hospitals, schools, workplaces and neighbourhoods and visit the Museum of the Revolution and local Committee for the Defence of the Revolution.

The cost, which includes flights, accommodation (dormitory style on the brigade camp), food, transport and visas, is just £1,195. This is usually fully, or part funded by the union, or by the individual.

If you are interested in being our young branch delegate and you are under 27 years old then please contact us as soon as possible as places are likely to go quite quickly.

If enough young people express an interest in establishing a group we will organise an inaugural meeting, but it would be our intention that the group be run by young members.

We may be able to arrange some benefits like:

  • providing volunteer staff at music festivals
  • putting young members in touch with local community campaigns
  • opportunities like the trip described above.

We are keen for young members to take up positions in the branch, and to come forward as conference delegates.

This year the UNISON Conference takes place in Liverpool from 16th to 22nd June 2013. The Conference always includes events and sessions aimed at young people.  Your fares, accommodation costs and expenses are all generously covered by the branch.

Email us: or phone 0208 496 4703.

We look forward to hearing from you!
