Supporters of Waltham Forest Trades Council met on Workers Memorial Day, 28 April 2013 at Thames Water Water Treatment Works, Coppermill Lane, E17 (UNISON attended with the branch banner) to remember GMB member Raymond Holmes who died on 20 April 2010 on the Coppermill Thames Water site. Local Government Pay......
If you haven’t already done so, please complete the UNISON pay campaign postcard.
Also use the link on the national website to lobby your local councillors. It looks like a 1% offer is on its way and frankly we need more than that. We need to keep the pressure up and we need our members to declare their protest at the march, via the postcard and by lobbying their own local councillors. Continue reading

Local Government Employers’ Final offer......
After our rejection of the two ‘options’ in their first pay offer, the Local Government Employers (LGE) came back to UNISON with a final offer in writing on 25 April.

British parliamentarians call on John Kerry to grant visitation rights to wives of Miami Five......
Seventy-one British parliamentarians have written to US Secretary of State John Kerry asking him to grant visas to allow two Cuban women, Adriana Perez and Olga Salanueva, to visit their husbands in the United States.

UNISON event at Ascham Homes staff conference at Sir James Hawkey Hall, Woodford Green on 29 April......
We will have a stall set up prior to the conference which is due to start at 12:15pm on Monday 29th April in the reception area of Sir James Hawkey Hall, Broadmead Road, Woodford Green.
Members and non members are welcome to visit the stall (non members can find out about the union). Steve Woodhouse, Organiser will be there; our Branch Secretary, David Knight hopes to be there together with other reps.
There will be freebies for existing members and for people who join.

UNISON event at 47 Gainsford Road, 15th May......

Workers’ Memorial Day Ceremonies 26th and 28th April......
This year, as Workers Memorial Day falls on a Sunday, our ceremony at Walthamstow Town Hall will take place on Friday 26th April at 1 pm.
The ceremony is to remember those workers who have lost their lives or have been maimed due to work related accidents or are suffering from occupational illnesses.
The local Trade Unions, local authority representatives, Councillors and local MPs will gather at the Town Hall where the National Flag will fly at half mast in memory of those who have died. A one minute silence will be observed, wreaths will be laid and speeches made. Continue reading
