Public meeting – Fighting Austerity Locally

Come along to this public meeting which is being held on Wednesday 15 May at 7:15-9:15 at The Hornbeam Café, 458 Hoe Street, Walthamstow, E17 9AH.

Waltham Forest Labour Representation Committee host a discussion on what Labour councils can do to fight austerity locally.

  • John Cryer MP for Leyton & Wanstead
  • Pilgrim Tucker, Community Unite Regional Officer
  • Dave Knight Branch Secretary UNISON in Waltham Forest
  • Cllr Saima Mahmud, Labour councillor, Waltham Forest

The government austerity programme makes no sense.

We are told the private sector can do public services like hospitals, day centres and schools better than local government but the Tories have slashed the funding and expect volunteers and those forced onto workfare programmes to prop up newly privatised services or fill in the gaps.

Profits are up for big business yet wages are falling, more people are looking for work, benefits are being cut and everyone is facing higher bills.
