Health cuts – No Way! Whipps Cross – here to stay!

A healthy march of several hundred trade unionists, Whipps Cross workers and concerned local residents made its way from the Green to the Town Square. Our branch banner was ably assisted by branch members Sarah from Chapel End Children’s Centre and Esther from George Mason Lodge, our thanks go to them and to Huw Davies who carried the banner much of the way. It was also great to see several of our retired members on the march.

At the Town Square we listened to an inspired series of speeches given by the workers at the hospital. OT’s, Theatre staff nurses, ward nurses, porters etc. all spoke of the love they have for their work and how worried they are by the threat of pay cuts and job cuts. The Trust may say that we campaigners are scaremongering but if £78 million cuts are going to be found then services will undoubtedly suffer. It was refreshing to hear directly from the workers who spoke with great pride, clarity and passion. This campaign needs the support of all of us. All of us who care for our NHS and its workforce need to support the campaign so please join us at the public meeting on 23rd October – venue to be confirmed.

We also heard from Charlotte Monro, the Health Branch Chair who has been suspended from the Consultative Forum which prevents her from representing  members at the joint forum with Trust managers for raising concerns about reductions in services.
