Home Care Workers in parts of the country have had their pay withheld whilst they travel between clients homes. This has meant that many Home Care Workers have been taking home less than the National Minimum Wage (Currently £6.31 for adults).
UNISON has been campaigning alongside groups such as the Resolution Foundation to end this practice and to ensure that all Home Care Workers are paid for their travel time and receive at least the Minimum Wage. The Government has now issued statutory guidance to Councils to ensure that all home care providers they contract with pay staff the national minimum wage, including travel time.
Next stop the London Living Wage.
If you are reading this and you are a Home Care Worker that is not in a union then please think seriously about joining UNISON now and strengthening our campaigns.
