At the end of a week that will see industrial action for local government workers, and possibly for NHS members, UNISON branches will be voicing their pay concerns on the streets of London, and directly to the public, with the biggest demonstration in the UK this decade.
The TUC event begins with a march through central London, culminating in a rally in Hyde Park. There will also be demonstrations in Glasgow, and in Northern Ireland.
Comments UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis: “Our members are saying loud and clear that enough is enough.”
UNISON is calling on activists to make sure all branches and regions mobilise for 18 October. This is your chance to join hundreds of thousands of others in standing up for fair pay this autumn. Falling wages affect everyone, so members will be bringing their families and friends along too.
The local UNISON Branch banner will be there, meeting the demonstration on the Embankment at 11am on the day. Hopefully our members will turn up with friends and family to show support for the campaign to win a fair and just pay rise for all workers. It is really important to the campaign that we have a massive turn out on the day so that we can show the nation that Britain does indeed need a pay rise.
