EDL to visit Walthamstow…. again!......
Despite the humiliation that they suffered two years ago when they attempted to march through our borough, the EDL have announced their intention to march through Walthamstow again on Saturday 9th May 2015. Our branch banner will be attending the counter demonstration calling for the EDL to be banned from marching in our diverse community and to let them know that the people of Walthamstow do not want them here. There will be a celebration of Waltham Forest’s diversity starting at 12 noon on the green by Walthamstow Central Bus Station and it would be great to see as many local UNISON members there as possible. Workers’ Memorial Day......
UNISON co-hosted the Workers Memorial Day (WMD) event at the Town Hall with Waltham Forest Trades Council on 28th April, the day when trade unionists across the globe remember those killed at work and pledge to fight for the living. Our two local Labour MP’s, John Cryer and Stella Creasy both turned despite having hectic General Election Campaign schedules. They spoke very supportively on the issue of improving health and safety at work and stayed for the entire ceremony, laying a bunch of flowers down from the local Labour Party. Continue reading
