Joint Protocol regarding naming of Staff in Court Judgements

UNISON and the Council have jointly agreed a  protocol which applies to any council staff who may, in the course of carrying out their duties, be named in court proceedings in the Family Courts.

The protocol is in response to the Transparency in the Family Courts publication issued on 16th January 2014 by Sir James Mumby, President of the Family Division. This guidance states that where a judge agrees a judgement should be published public authorities and expert witnesses should be named in the judgement approved for publication…unless there are compelling reasons why they shouldn’t be named.

The joint protocol aims to ensure the health , safety and well being of staff and their families in these situations. The joint protocol is being formally signed off on 20th August and the signed version will be on our website next week.
