Walthamstow Housing Campaign – Walk the Walk for Butterfields

Waltham Forest Trades Council are organising ‘Walk the Walk’ for Butterfields, Saturday April 2nd at 1pm, Turtlebay (top of market near Walthamstow tube)

Pavement Walk via Hoe St to the Bakers Arms and up Leabridge Road to Butterfields, ending with a short rally

The end of the phony war of the tenants of Butterfields and Shernhall Street is over. The expiry date to quit the flats has arrived. The tenants are still in their homes.

The next stage is for the landlord company Butterfields E17 to decide – either to take on the tenants and all their supporters by going for court applications for eviction, or, to meet the Tenants and Residents Association (TRA) to discuss how this situation can be sorted. The ball is in their court.

WFTC Housing Action Campaign along with the TRA has called this event Walk the Walk (details above) and urges all to come along. It is partly to raise awareness and inspire others in the area, and partly to prepare to stop bailiffs – if it should ever come to that.

Linda Taaffe commented, “Butterfields families are calling on all their neighbours in Waltham Forest, and from housing campaigns in other areas in London, to come to their assistance. They are doing what thousands of renters want to do i.e. organize mass resistance to sky-rocketing rents.
