The Branch AGM will be held on Wednesday 4th March 2014. Please make a note in your diary now. It will be in the Waltham Forest Town Hall Council Chamber at 12 noon and will be held again for members who cannot get to a lunch time meeting at 4pm. Please make sure you attend so that your voice is heard and encourage all your UNISON work colleagues to come along too. This is a meeting open to all members. Members are entitled to make suggestions and draw up motions for the meeting so please send any ideas that you may have into the branch office.
Attached is the nomination form for the election of branch officers for 2015. A new Branch Secretary, Branch Chair and Branch Treasurer need to be found as the present holders of those positions will all be standing down. All the other positions on the form are also up for election so please consider standing for a position. With so many of the senior posts being vacated this is an exciting time for the branch and the dawning of a new era. Please have a look at the form and talk to your UNISON colleagues. Consider who you would like to see as the lead representatives of your UNISON branch and nominate them (with their agreement of course). Continue reading

At the lunchtime meeting we heard from the Tower Hamlets Branch Secretary and Service Group Executive Member, John McLoughlin, who talked to us about the importance of this year’s pay claim. This is basically £1 on the hourly rate at Spinal Column Point 5 and this is repeated across the pay scales. It is slightly more in London. To win our claim may well require us to take action, but failing to take action could well mean further drops in our standard of living. We have already dropped 18% under this government. The line has to be drawn. Continue reading
