All members whose pay is set by the National Joint Council for Local Government should shortly be receiving a ballot paper from the branch along with a freepost return envelope. Please make sure the ballot paper is returned by Friday 7th June 2013.
The 1% pay offer from the government is, given inflation, effectively a 2% pay cut. Following on from a three year pay freeze this derisory offer is an insult to all of us who work in local government, provide local services and support work in schools. Continue reading
Thanks to those members who have written to Councillors about our paltry pay offer. The Councillors response is disappointing though. In fact they did not reply to their constituents at all. Instead they got the Director of Human Resources to reply. She told us that the Council would go along with the National Joint Council and added at the end of her letter, “Can I also remind you that the Council’s Constitution states ‘Officers will not seek any member’s support in any employment or other dispute or a Council appointment or promotion therefore issues regarding pay are dealt with at officer level.”

Also use the link on the national website to lobby your local councillors. It looks like a 1% offer is on its way and frankly we need more than that. We need to keep the pressure up and we need our members to declare their protest at the march, via the postcard and by lobbying their own local councillors. Continue reading
After our rejection of the two ‘options’ in their first pay offer, the Local Government Employers (LGE) came back to UNISON with a final offer in writing on 25 April.
UNISON is calling on all members to lobby their local Councillors to tell them that the pay offer is an insult and cannot be accepted. Continue reading
