There is equipment available that can monitor blood sugar levels without having to constantly test by pricking fingers which causes calusses and eventual numbing of the fingertips. This new monitor costs £1,000 and will cost £3,000 a year to run, so the NHS are not providing it to Type 1 patients at the moment.
